Welcome to Finca Díaz Puerto Rico: Where the Journey

Slows Down (But Never Stops)

If you’ve been following along for a while, you probably know me as someone who likes to keep moving—hopping on flights, tasting my way through new cities, and chasing unforgettable flavors around the globe. But lately, life has invited me to slow down in a beautiful, unexpected way. Earlier this year, I left the fast pace (and frozen sidewalks) of Chicago behind and made Puerto Rico my home. And with that move came something I didn’t see coming: the beginning of a whole new kind of adventure—one with more soil under my nails than stamps in my passport.

Introducing Finca Díaz Puerto Rico, a new space on the blog where I share my homestead journey—messy, meaningful, and full of growth in every sense of the word. When I’m not traveling or exploring the island’s many hidden gems, you’ll find me here: on a little patch of land that I’m slowly turning into a sustainable, intentional place to live, grow, and recharge. It’s a major shift from jet lag and airport lounges, but I’ve found the same kind of joy and discovery in planting a seed or cooking with something I grew as I do wandering the streets of a new city. (Okay, maybe with slightly less suitcase unpacking.)

Finca Díaz PR is where I document this process—the good, the wonky, and the surprisingly delicious. From learning how to compost without attracting every bug on the island, to celebrating the first herbs that survived my "experimental" planting methods, this series is all about embracing the beginner stage and finding beauty in the slowness. I’ll be sharing what I’ve grown, cooked, and built on this little homestead of mine, as well as the stories of the incredible people I’ve met along the way—neighbors, farmers, artisans—each of whom has taught me something about living more intentionally.

What I love most is how this lifestyle grounds me. After years of hustling, building a life rooted in the land has brought a different kind of excitement—one that comes from watching things grow, from slow, quiet mornings in the backyard, and from learning how to live a little more in tune with the rhythms of nature (and a lot less with the ringing of my telephone). That sense of connection, creativity, and calm is something I can’t wait to share with you.

So whether you’re here for the travel stories or curious about the slower, simpler life I’m cultivating in between flights, I hope you’ll find something meaningful in Finca Díaz PR. Think of it as the heart behind the passport—a place where the journey doesn't stop, it just changes pace.

Welcome to the country where we’re rooted in family, growing for tomorrow.
