A Taste of Arizona’s Olive Orchard Experience
April, 2023. Nestled in the heart of Arizona, the Queen Creek Olive Mill is more than just a place to buy olive oil—it's a full-fledged agri-tourism destination that offers a unique, hands-on experience for visitors of all ages. I had the pleasure of visiting this charming family-run estate with my family, and it turned out to be a perfect getaway that combined fun, lots of flavor, and a little education. Whether you’re a foodie, an outdoor enthusiast, or simply looking for a family-friendly outing, the Queen Creek Olive Mill has something for everyone.
A Walk Through the Orchard
We didn’t get the chance to go on their guided tour of their lush olive tree orchard but it will be on my list of things to do on my next trip there. For a small fee, one can take a stroll through rows of olive trees that are the heart and soul of the mill’s operations where a knowledgeable tour guide will talk about the olive-growing process, from the careful cultivation of the trees to the meticulous harvesting of the olives. Talking to other patrons I was amazed to learn that there over 7,000 olive trees, many of which are rooted in the Arizona soil for decades.
Olive Oil Tastings: A Flavorful Experience
After our walk through the orchard, it was time to indulge in some tastings. Queen Creek Olive Mill produces a variety of extra virgin olive oils, each with its own distinctive flavor profile. The best part? We were able to sample a variety of these oils, from the classic, smooth and grassy varieties to the more robust, peppery ones that pack a punch.
But what really set the experience apart was their range of flavored oils. From lemon and basil-infused olive oils to garlic, chili pepper, and even blood orange, the possibilities were endless. We also sampled some of their premium vinegars, sauces, and tapenades—perfect for adding that extra burst of flavor to any dish. I found myself taking notes on which ones would pair perfectly with meals at home, as I knew I wouldn’t be leaving without a few bottles in tow.
A Gourmet Experience at the On-Site Bistro
After a fun-filled tour and tasting, we made our way to the dining area for a relaxed and delicious meal. The Queen Creek Olive Mill’s bistro offers a variety of dishes made with their very own olive oils and other locally sourced ingredients. The menu includes everything from gourmet sandwiches and pasta dishes to hearty salads and wood-fired pizzas. I went for the wood-fired pizza, which was absolutely divine—the crust had the perfect balance of crispy and chewy, topped with fresh basil, mozzarella and, of course, a drizzle of their extra virgin olive oil.
If you’re looking for a lighter bite, there are plenty of small plates to choose from, like bruschetta, hummus, and olive tapenade. And if you’re in the mood for something sweet, don’t miss their decadent desserts, many of which feature their olive oil as a key ingredient. It’s a unique twist that adds richness and depth to every bite.
Shop ‘Til You Drop at the Boutique Store
No visit to the Queen Creek Olive Mill would be complete without stopping by their boutique store. This well-curated shop offers a wide variety of products, including the olive oils and vinegars we tasted during the tour. But it doesn’t stop there! The store also carries a variety of gourmet spices, sauces, tapenades, soaps, and skincare products—all infused with the goodness of olives.
I was thrilled to bring home a bottle of the lemon-infused olive oil and a jar of their famous Mediterranean tapenade. The staff were friendly and helpful, offering plenty of suggestions on how to use each product. It’s a perfect stop for foodies looking to stock their pantry with high-quality, local ingredients or for anyone looking to bring a unique souvenir home.
The Perfect Family Outing
What made this trip even more special was the family-friendly atmosphere at Queen Creek Olive Mill. It was a great place for all ages to enjoy the natural beauty of the orchard, learn about the olive oil production process, and indulge in delicious, locally made food. The experience felt personal and warm, and I could tell that the family behind the mill truly cares about sharing their love for olive oil and Arizona’s agricultural heritage.
We spent a leisurely afternoon there, and I left feeling both satisfied and inspired. The blend of scenic views, great food, and educational experiences made it a perfect outing for families, food lovers, or anyone looking to explore something unique in the Arizona desert.

If you’re ever in the Queen Creek area, I highly recommend a visit to the Queen Creek Olive Mill. Whether you’re there to learn about the olive-growing process, sample award-winning oils, or simply enjoy a delicious meal, it’s an experience that’s both memorable and rewarding. The next time I’m in the area, I’ll be sure to return for another round of olive oil tastings and a slice of that incredible wood-fired pizza.
